How good is oj? What's better for you - an orange or orange juice? From W Billings, Manchester | November 2003 |
Ron Rosedale from the Rosedale Center For Metabolic And Longevity Medicine in Denver, US, replies: OJ probably won't harm you - as long as you're not married to him! Whole oranges are full of vitamin C, fibre and many other important nutrients, but juicing removes the fibre, one of the most healthy components of the fruit, and creates what is essentially high calorie sugar water. It's better to choose whole fruits (and veg) over the juiced variety as often as possible. Whether it's freshly squeezed, from concentrate or fortified, keep glasses of juice small and infrequent.
