Why should I warm down?

What's the point of warming down on an exercise bike after doing a workout?

manager for Cannons, replies: During exercise certain waste products, eg lactic acid, accumulate within the body. Gentle rhythmic exercise will encourage the blood to flow through the body removing these waste products. It is argued that the removal of some of these waste products will lessen discomfort experienced the following day.

A cool-down period also allows the heart rate, breathing and blood pressure to fall towards their resting levels. Some people use this time to relax and mentally unwind.
