Edward Bloom (Albert Finney) is a loveable old git who compulsively tells tall stories on his deathbed about the adventures of his younger self, played by Ewan McGregor. This fantasy version of Edward is a fearless, charismatic winner who faces down death at every turn in a succession of bizarre adventures involving werewolves, freak-shows, and a naked fish-woman. It's feel-good stuff, but there's still a dark edge to the proceedings which saves it from sentimentality. Spooky, funny and brilliantly acted, this chunk of nonsense could make a Yorkshireman smile. Another Burton classic.
